Updating the Classic American Ranch Home

The Ranch went through many iterations during the 50's, 60's and 70's. Some inspired and some not.

Initially, this modern suburban home style expressed freedom from aspects of the traditional home that might be perceived as confining or strictly ornamental. It typically maintains a low profile at the street and an open floor plan on the interior. Today, we are most aware of the mass produced versions that are abundant in older suburbs.

In this project (nearing completion), our client asked us to come up with an alternative to the home's rather flat and dated look. Rather than take it further in the direction of contemporary, we returned to tradition to give the house a strong, distinctive character.

Here's what's been done so far.
